Now that the opening of the Locknesters solo show, “The Travelers Series” has come and gone, we took the opportunity to ask him a few questions to get to know what makes him click!
Who is Locknesters?
My name is Fleet Hower from Brooklyn, NY. I studied architecture in school and have taught architecture for many years. As architects we’re taught to think about the tectonics of buildings. That thought process is evident in my designer toys. I’ve been designing and producing toys for about 8 years. Until this year my work went up to 12″ tall. This year I began producing larger pieces, up to 36″.
Who/What are your biggest influences?
Many artists and architects, it’s hard to choose one. Currently I’m really into the work of Misha Kahn and Chris Wolston.
How did you find out about designer toys?
Not totally sure, years ago I was traveling in China and came across a series of large plastic Mario World figures. They were well-made. I wouldn’t consider them designer toys, but they piqued my interest and led me down a path of discovering the designer toy world.
